Why is my mailing address asked for twice?
They are two different questions with two different right answers, so the delivery address is collected at checkout rather than copied from your forms.
The address on the SS-5 is the one the agency should have for you. The delivery address is where a package should arrive next week. Those are often the same and sometimes very much not, and quietly prefilling one from the other would be us deciding something about your life that we have no business deciding.
- It is collected by our payment provider during checkout, on the same screen as the payment.
- It is only collected when what you bought actually puts something in the mail.
- It is encrypted the same way your answers are, and destroyed by the same job on the same one-year schedule.
- It is never read back onto a page. Your kit page tells you the status of an envelope, not the address on it.
Once a packet has been printed it cannot be recalled or redirected, so it is worth a second look at the address before you pay. If it turns out to have been wrong, ask for a replacement rather than waiting to see whether the first one arrives.
Nothing is ever mailed to an agency on your behalf. Every envelope we send goes to you.

When you’re ready to do it
Two questions about your situation first, because there is one answer that means we can’t help — and we would rather tell you that before you pay than after.
