The part everyone underestimates

The government steps are the ones with deadlines, so they get all the attention. The ones that bite are the others: a bank that still has your old name when you try to deposit a check, an insurer whose policyholder name doesn’t match your ID, a W-2 in January in a name you haven’t used since spring. Those need a letter each, and writing fifteen of them by hand is what people find out about months later. Every letter your list comes to is written for you.
