How long can I download my kit for?

A name change is worked through over weeks and picked up again months later — the letter you did not need in March, the passport form you got to in the fall. So your finished kit stays where it is, and the link that opens it can be reissued whenever you need it.

Files and answers are not the same thing

• Your documents — the filled forms, the letters, the checklist, the state sheets — stay available to download.
• The answers you typed into the interview are deleted a year after your kit is first delivered. That is what we were given; the documents are what we made from it, and the purge takes the first and not the second.

The year is not arbitrary. It is the same year the redo promise runs for: rebuilding a document an agency sent back means running it from your answers again, so the retention window and the promise are deliberately the same length. After it, the sensitive material is gone and your files remain.

Downloading a copy of everything to your own machine once the kit is built is never a bad idea, if only so it is in two places.
