Name Change Works

The clerk asked for something the kit didn’t mention. What now?

Do what the agency asked — their published requirements govern — and then tell us what they said so the page can be corrected.

Fees, deadlines, document lists and counter procedures are set by each agency and change without notice. Where we publish one, it was read off the agency’s own page and the date we read it sits next to it. What the agency requires on the day you are standing there is what governs, not what we published in the spring.

What to do at the counter

Then tell us

Email support@namechangeworks.com with the state, the office, and what they asked for. This is genuinely useful to us — a requirement that changed is a page we can correct, and the next person walks in knowing about it. It is an invitation rather than a formality: our state pages are only as current as the last time somebody checked them, and a person who has just been to the counter is better evidence than a page.

If the outcome was that a form came back rather than an extra document, that is the re-do promise: send us what they told you and we prepare it again free, for a year from your purchase.

One surprise worth heading off entirely: a counter checking your new name against a Social Security record that has not caught up yet. That is a sequencing problem rather than a paperwork one, and doing Social Security first is why the checklist is ordered the way it is.
