Name Change Works

How do I update Global Entry or TSA PreCheck?

Update your Trusted Traveler record online through Customs and Border Protection with your new passport, or in person at any enrollment center. The name update is free.

Neither is updated for you when your passport changes. Both sit on a Trusted Traveler record held by Customs and Border Protection, and that record is the thing you change.

Online

Sign in to the Trusted Traveler Programs site at ttp.cbp.dhs.gov, update your documents, and upload the passport in your new name. The published turnaround for this runs about three to eight weeks.

In person

Any enrollment center will make the update while you are there, with no appointment needed. If you are traveling soon, this is the faster route by a wide margin.

What it costs

The name update is free. A replacement card carrying the new name is $25 if you want one.

Where PreCheck fits

If your TSA PreCheck came with Global Entry, it is linked through the same Trusted Traveler record, so updating that record is the update. If you enrolled in PreCheck on its own, treat it as its own job and confirm the name on it afterward rather than assuming it followed.

Do this after the new passport arrives — the online update wants to see it, and the passport is the document the record is built on.
