How to do it
- Update your name with the Social Security Administration first.
- Visit a Capital One branch, where an ambassador updates the account from your documentation.
- Or call 1-888-464-0727 to request a secure link for uploading documents without visiting a location.
- Or fax the documents to 1-888-464-3220, marked ATTN: Capital One.
- Or mail them to Capital One Bank, ATTN: Bank by Mail, PO Box 85123, Richmond, VA 23285.
- Allow up to 10 business days for the request to be processed.
- Once approved, request a replacement debit card online or in the app under ‘replace damaged card’.

- For a credit card, Capital One says the process can start online, by phone, or at a branch, using the number on the back of the card.
- Capital One's credit-card guidance also lists a passport or a court order as acceptable documentation.
