What do I do while my document is still in the mail?
Get everything else ready. You can build the whole kit while the copy is in the mail, and it names what you are still waiting for and how to order it.
Certified copies routinely take two to six weeks by mail, and often the same day if you can go in person. A great many people are in exactly that window — the event has happened and the paperwork is in transit. That is a timing gap, not a problem with your situation, and it is not a reason to sit and wait.
Everything the kit does is thinking that can be done before the envelope arrives: working out which passport form your dates put you on, filling in the forms, listing the accounts that need telling, writing the letters, putting the whole sequence in order. The day your copy lands, you sign and send.
What the kit does differently while you wait
- A banner rides along through the interview and stays on your kit, naming the document you are waiting on rather than assuming you have it in hand.
- It names the office that issues it, what to ask for, and links to where the request goes.
- Ordering your copies sits at the top of the checklist, ahead of every step that depends on them.
Nothing in the kit expires and there is no deadline on our side. It waits as long as the mail does.

Two questions about your situation first, because there is one answer that means we can’t help — and we would rather tell you that before you pay than after.
